Silks at The Darwin Turf Club

About The Project

This project involved the supply and installation of the complete air conditioning system for the venue, cool room and freezer room and commercial kitchen exhaust canopies.

Air Conditioning

  • 11 Temperzone air conditioners were supplied and installed for this project, together with 4 Fujitsu air conditioners and 6 Mitsubitishi air conditioners.
  • We supplied and installed 898 metres of air conditioning pipework and drains.
  • All exhaust fans, flex ducts, cushion heads, registers were supplied and installed together with 125 metres of metal duct work.
  • The use of duct board on this project was a first of its kind in the Northern Territory, no one has attempted to construct this amount of Duct board with the TFD flanges for use in tropical conditions. Such unique circumstances meant that everybody involved had to work together to test and trial every aspect of the manufacturing and the installation. The success of this project was heavily reliant on great communication and problem solving by all parties.
  • All electrical controllers and temperature sensors were supplied and installed for the air conditioning.

Cool Rooms and Freezer Room

  • Design and construct the 3 cool rooms and freezer room including the installation of glass display doors and shelving to the main bar cool room. This also included the installation of all concrete floors for each of the rooms.
  • We supplied and installed all of the refrigeration units for the cool rooms and freezer rooms using 133 metres of refrigeration pipework and drains.
  • We supplied as built drawings, section 40 compliance and we provide the on going maintenance for the units for all installed equipment.

James Harrison, Australia, and the World's First Patented Refrigerator

Before Scottish expatriate James Harrison, then member of the Victoria Legislative Council and owner of the Geelong Advertiser newspaper, making ice was difficult. In fact, no one had invented a mechanical method to produce ice or to refrigerate items. Whenever you use your ice machine to create a delectable cocktail for guests, or crack open a cool one on a scorching day, remember James Harrison. It is because of his ingenuity that you are able to enjoy beverages like this.
